SONIA AND PAWAN'S RESIDENCE

Home to the warm and charming couple Sonia and Dr Pawan, their daughter Roshni and their two cats Tom and Oliver, this compact 1700sft apartment in Bangalore was one of the recent projects we had most fun designing. With each one of our projects, particularly homes, the attempt has usually been to create spaces that that go beyond a definitive design style, but instead create spaces with a unique character that reflects the sensibilities of our clients as well. Our approach towards this project was no different. In our very first meeting we realised that both Sonia and Pawan had their own unique requirements for their home. Dr Pawan with his calm, down to earth approach was primarily interested in all things practical. He was keen that the home be warm and welcoming and clutter free where all the functional aspects of every space be kept foremost in mind. For him, the home needed to be a space to relax and unwind after his very long hours at the hospital. Sonia, with her cheerful, warm and vibrant personality was looking for a happy, upbeat, eclectic space which brings out a sense of joie de vivre. The entire design process was aimed at creating spaces that have their own identity but come together seamlessly to tell one story. The design that evolved reflects this. While the living, dining, kitchen and family room are bold and quirky and unafraid of colour, for the two main bedrooms we went with a soothing material palette dominated by greys, warm beiges and pastels, creating spaces that are calm and relaxing. In the word of designer Ilse Crawford– “A longing for home lies within all of us”. This project was our attempt to give shape to the family’s dreams for their home and we hope we

succeeded.
